I've been here on a TN-1 since May of 2000, so it's definitely do-able. I would think the TN-1 would be easier than the H1-B at the moment since there would be no burden to prove there were no US citizens qualified for your position.
Just remember when you're petitioning for your TN-1 that it is a temporary visa, don't give any indication that you plan to overstay your visa limit or you can be denied. Also, the TN-1 is now good for 3 years IF your employment offer letter states your job offer is for 3 years.
Good luck with your application. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to try to help!
Permalink Reply by Hilary Johnson on December 11, 2010 at 4:56pm It seems like you have gotten a lot of advise. I just applied for my GC about a year ago (my husband is a US citizen), went for our interview in February and got my GC immediately after. I was already living in Houston at the time on an F-1 student visa. I did not hire or consult with an attorney, it was easy, although time consuming - it was totally worth saving the $$$. I'm at work now, but if you need it, I can send you a list of all the forms I filled out.

Hilary, I'd really appreciate it! I have the applications I think I need, just worried about filling them all out correctly, and hoping I'm not the only person out there trying to save some money. LOL.
