Canadian Club of Houston

I'm renewing my Canadian passport and I realized the Declaration of Guarantor has changed and now needs to be a Canadian citizen. How do you handle this? I'm guessing my only option is to mail the whole she-bang to a relative in Canada then have them mail the application in for me?

The entire process makes me want to a) move back to Canada or b) bite the bullet and finally take steps to become a US citizen.

P.S. I realize I could fill out the simplified application and avoid the guarantor altogether but I'm attempting to change my name to my married name at the same time and do not qualify for simplified renewal.

Oh, yes! I remember when I had to renew my passport it took FOREVER! They kept sending it back because the pictures were not the right size or something else was wrong w/ them! It took 4 attempts! It was a nightmare! LOL! As far the Guarantor, I had my sister sign it as she happened to be visiting me at the time. I also think the person has to have known you for 2 years. Do you have any Canadian friends in Houston area that can sign it for you?
I recently did the same thing...renewed my passport and changed my name to my married name. I had to do the mailing back and forth thing. I don't think there's any other way around it!
I think I found a way around the guarantor process. I downloaded the old form for which the previous guarantor policy still applies. ((fingers crossed)).
