The United States and Canada trade over $1 million per minute every day in goods and cooperate on defense, border security, the environment, and especially energy. As the largest foreign supplier of oil and uranium, electricity and natural gas - to the United States, Canada's energy future is closely linked with ours. How will environmental challenges affect investments in the Canadian oil sands? How can Canada and the U.S. work more effectively together to compete in a globalized economy?

Gary Doer has been Ambassador of Canada to the United States since October 2009. Prior to that, Ambassador Doer served as Premier of Manitoba for ten years where he led strategic investments in health care, education, and training and infrastructure. During that time, he worked extensively with U.S. governors to enhance cooperation on trade, agriculture, water protection, climate change and renewable energy. In 2005, he was named by Business Week as one of the top 20 international leaders on climate change.
